Are you in resistance?

naebiernat

Most mornings after waking up, I meander outside to greet the day, the sunshine and plants. I sit amongst the reeds and trees and set my intentions for the day. As the weather begins to let go of the energy of summer and slip into fall, the scene changes from all shades of green to include red, orange, yellow and brown.

As I was sitting in our wild area this morning, looking up at the trees and watching the leaves fall - it occurred to me that when change is afoot, Nature just lets go. There is no resistance. There is no fight. It is as if there is a knowing that, when it's time to let go, when a time of change is here - everything we witness in Nature allows.

Nature doesn't resist. Nature trusts. Nature flows.

Even amongst what seems to be darkness.

We humans on the other hand often have a habit of being in a state of regular resistance, don't we? Change can feel hard, scary, unsettling. We find comfort in the familiar - even if it's less than what we could do, or could be. We may curse our job, but find it really hard to take the leap into something new. We may not like the state of our health, but subconsciously find lots of excuses to not go for that walk, or eat the veggie.

It can feel like we are working against ourselves when we are in resistance. And our mind plays tricks on us to make the change feel so big. Insurmountable. Not worth the effort. Or, we tell ourselves we've already dealt with "that issue" and this is as good as it gets. The list goes on and on what we tell ourselves, doesn't it?

And the most tricky part is that a lot of the time, we don't even realize we are in this state of resistance. We are doing life in autopilot.

In my own life, I am finding that our counterparts in Nature guide us in this life, if we open to them. The trees, plants and rocks share their wisdom both in the act of witnessing them simply be, and dropping guidance directly into our hearts.

Our work is to first slow down. To choose differently. Go against the grain of this modern world. Even if it's 10 minutes a day. Bring our focus into our interior world. Observe our thoughts. Look for patterns. Find those areas that we are hanging on to a bit too long. Those parts of our life where we are perhaps making excuses. Where we are resisting flow. Resisting change.

And then consider that perhaps, we are being held. Guided. And trust that the Creator force behind this life will take us through resistance and into flow. If only we allow.

If you don't have a practice already, my encouragement for you is to start small. Find something that feels do-able and simple to you. Perhaps you take a different route home that is off the beaten path that will show the fall colors, even if it takes a bit longer.

Or, rather than picking up your phone when your eyes first crack open, you leave them closed and pause, and allow yourself to feel the sunshine on your face and find gratitude for its warmth. Listen to the morning birdsong. The morning breeze. Just for a few minutes.

Find something that sparks for you.

Try it for a week and see how you feel. I promise you that with consistency (not perfection!), the world will begin to look differently to you. Start there, and see where you will flow.

In coherence,

Ranee
